Whether you choose to get more active or ask a GP for help, Women’s Health Week is the perfect time for you to reset and rethink your health and wellbeing.
As Australia’s most prominent event centred around the health and wellbeing of women, we encourage all women and girls in our community to come forward and take their health first.
Let’s take a look at how you can spend your week doing activities and making the right choices while we all indulge in some “me-time”.
1) Nourish your skin with good nutrients
Even wondered why Vitamin C is setting all the raze rage in skincare these days?
That is because vitamin C is a powerful anti-ageing agent. It can fend off signs of ageing because of its natural ability to synthesise collagen.
Not just that, the antioxidants found in vitamin C also defend your skin against the damage of UV light.
Studies have also found that people who eat a diet rich in vitamin C have fewer wrinkles when they age.
So, this week, add more citrus fruits and eat more broccoli and red peppers because they are full of vitamin C.
2) Find every opportunity to move more
This year’s edition of Women’s Health Week starts with a bang, with the first day focused on moving your body.
And we’re not talking about going for a run or a walk into your neighbourhood.
It’s time to get a bit more serious, put on shoes, set up a playlist, and do jumping jacks, run up the hill, walk flights of steps – just anything that gets you moving more.
Considering women are much more vulnerable to bone health disorders like osteoporosis, getting physically active can help build and maintain stronger bones.

3) Time for a talk
Just like pregnancy, menopause, or breast cancer, women also have unique mental health issues.
In Australia, 1 in every 6 women experiences depression during their lifetime. Add PTSD, menopause, social-cultural influences, and whatnot. Women encounter many forms of mental health issues during their lifetime.
This week also focuses on mental well-being. So, prioritising your mental health and speaking up with a Counsellor when you need support can be a great way to start healing.
4) Get some sleep
While period pain could be one of the many reasons for sleeplessness, other physical changes like pregnancy and menopause can also interfere with sleep quality.

5) Go for a checkup
If you have been missing your regular health check for some time, Women’s Health Week is perfect for reminding yourself to go see a GP soon.
While a part of your healthcare could be just a general consultation with your doctor, screening for heart disease, diabetes, or breast cancer can be required.
And in case you’re at a high for any particular disease, we recommend you come to see our doctors for a checkup and take the initiative of preventing disease before it strikes you.
6) Also, do a self-check up at home
Did you know that preventive health care can be as easy as looking yourself into the mirror for something unusual?
For instance, self-examination can be a good way to find signs of breast and skin cancer.
You can begin by looking for signs of bulging, puckering and dimpling of the skin, or redness, soreness, and rash for “at-home breast health check.”
7) Try something new
One of the most gratifying ways to explore your happiness is by trying new things in life.
This week, we encourage you to try something that you have been wanting to do.
Maybe take a new route to your local cafe, try a cuisine that you saw on Instagram, or something as easy as listening to a different kind of music.
