5 Healthy things to do to kick off your new year right

2022 is here, and with every new year comes a new sense of motivation, a new chance to get better and healthier.

For us at Inkerman Medical Group, we start our new year by taking the time to access our physical and mental health before we usher into any new year resolutions.

But that said, there is no sure-fire way of getting it right. We believe in breaking big goals into smaller steps and making them more attainable, and not those audacious goals you made just a year ago!

Here’s a few healthy ways you can kick off your new year right;

1. Make a list of all the medical screenings you need to do this year

Getting screened for diseases is one of the best things you can do for your health.

Depending on your current health status, age, or family medical history, there could be several tests you need to do once a year.

For instance, if you’re sexually active, you’ll need to get tested for STIs often. Or if you have close family members or relatives who had breast cancer or ovarian cancer, then your risks for developing one will also be higher, requiring more regular screenings.

2. Prioritise your wellness and invest more time on yourself

One thing that the pandemic has brought is mental and physical health crises across the globe. Throughout the pandemic, many individuals have found themselves living with uncertainties associated with outcomes ranging from negative mental health impacts to elevated blood pressure, stress, diabetes, and whatnot.

But, whether you’ve sought help in 2021 or not, don’t forget to invest time in taking care of your health this year. Be it by getting more active, drinking more water, or seeking help with worrying mental health, kick start your year by investing in yourself.

3. Sort your routine life

We know that getting your routine sorted is be-all and end-all. It comes with many benefits. Filling in your days with routine activities like regularly hitting the gym or meditation can make life happier and more productive.

Try to plan a day according to your goals, such as filling in with activities that make you happy.

If you lead a busy life, it’s good, but find time to relax in the evening. A new year is a great time to reschedule a new routine in your life.

4. Break your wellness goals into smaller attainable steps

The new year is a great time to think tiny. Let’s be honest with ourselves; you won’t notice progress until you keep doing what you are doing for a while. A step-by-step approach to attaining your overarching health goal will get surefire bets.

Make a list of all the activities with every plan, and you’re more likely to succeed. If one of your goals is to reduce weight, start by going for short runs, eat a light dinner, and get more sleep before you plan to hit a gym.

5. Get more active

We can’t stress enough the importance of getting more active. That is why, getting more active is perhaps one of the most popular new year’s resolutions.

Set goals and get involved in actual day-to-day efforts, getting more active. Invest in a good wearable tech that monitors your fitness. It encourages you to push a little harder such as some extra steps to attain a goal or keeping your heart rate in the fat-burning zone.

If you lack motivation, train with a small group or play your favourite sport with friends.
